BillTracking

Delete your account and your votes

This page explains how to permanently delete your BillTracking account and every vote you have cast — from inside the app, or by email if you have already uninstalled it.

The fastest way

1. In the app

Open BillTracking and go to the You tab, then tap Delete account and confirm.

Deletion is immediate and permanent. There is no waiting period, no "deactivated" state, and no recovery — we keep no copy to restore from.

If you no longer have the app

2. By email

You do not need to reinstall anything. Email contact@billtracking.org with the subject “Delete my account”.

Please send it from the email address you signed in with, because that is how we confirm the request is really yours. We will not delete an account on the say-so of an address we cannot match — someone else's political voting history is not something to erase on an unverified request.

If you used Sign in with Apple and hid your email

Apple may have given us a relay address ending in @privaterelay.appleid.com instead of your real one. Mail sent from your own address will not match it. If that is you, say so in your email and we will work it out with you — we will not leave you stuck. You can also see the address on your account in the app under the You tab, which is worth noting down before you uninstall.

How long it takes

We aim to action email requests within a few days, and in any case within 30 days. We will reply to confirm when it is done. Deleting from inside the app is instant, which is why we suggest it first.

Be clear about this part

What is deleted, and what is not

Deleted, permanently

  • Your account, including the identifier and email address from Google or Apple.
  • Every vote you have ever cast, including the optional country or state you set.
  • Any token held to disconnect BillTracking from your Apple ID.

Not deleted, and why

  • Vote counts that were already published. These are totals — "412 for, 388 against" — with nothing in them that points to any individual. Your vote is removed from our database and from every count produced afterwards, but a number already posted or already downloaded by someone is not retrospectively rewritten. It was true when it was published.
  • Anything stored only on your own device — your followed bills, keywords and display settings never reach us in the first place. Deleting the app removes them.
  • Emails you have sent us, which we keep as ordinary correspondence for as long as needed to deal with them. Ask and we will delete those too.

Deleting your account does not stop you using BillTracking. Reading the feeds, following bills and notifications have never required an account, and still work without one. You can sign in again later — it will be a new account with no history.

If we say no

If we cannot action a deletion request — realistically, only if we cannot establish that the account is yours — we will tell you why. You can complain to your national data protection authority, and you can go to court. Details of what we hold and why are on the privacy page.
